  • The Monument of Thao Suranaree is placed in center of Korat city.
    A part of moat is filled up and used by a park.
    Many attractions are performed in this park.
    This area is located many public office.
    Example, a prefectural government, Library, Museum etc.

    1. The Monument of Thao Suranaree
    [ Location ]
    A front of the westward old gate "Pratu Chumpon"

    [ Outline ]
    Constructed in 1934.
    "Thao Suraneree" is called "Khun Ying Mo" by Korat peoples who are intimate with her.
    She was a wife of the Deputy Governor of Korat during the reign of King Rama III.
    She managed to save the city from the invasion of the Laotian army led by Prince Anuwong of Vientiane.
    This momument was erected to commemorate her heroic deed.
    Korat peoples are praying this momument as usual for asking things of her.
    Could you pray her for your asking by all means ?

    2. Pratu Chumpon
    Pratu Chumpon [ Location ]
    A front of the Monument of Thao Suranaree

    [ Outline ]
    An old Korat city was surrounded by high fence and moat so as to protect Korat people from foreign enemies.
    And people could enter into city area through four gates which were placed on east, west, south and north.
    These gates opened at the daytime only and closed at night.
    The four gates and moat are remaining now.
    But this gate only made by using old stone, other three gates are rebuilt recently.

    3. Dancing to give Khun Ying Mo

    Khun Ying Mo saw dancing everyday because she loved this dancing very much.
    So a people, who visit to pray Khun Ying Mo, ask them to dance in order to give her.

    4. Maha Weerawong Museum
    Museum [ Location ]
    About 300 meter from the Monument of Thao Suranaree
    A museum is located behind the Library.

    [ Outline ]
    Admission time: 9.00 a.m. -4.00 p.m.
    Open everyday.
    Admission Fee: 10 Baht

    "Maha Weerawong" is a name of high rank Buddhist priest.
    This museum exhibits various arts objects and artifacts donated to him.
    e. g.,
    Sandstone Buddha images of Khmer and Ayuttaya period.
    Bronze Buddha images.
    Different size of ceramics and wood carvings from ancient monastery etc.

    5. An open space market in front of the prefectural government
    [ Location ]
    About 300 meter from the Monument of Thao Suranaree
    A front of the museum. But you must go round to cross the moat from the museum.
    [ Outline ]
    An open space in front of the prefectural government is used a market by Korat people at daytime.
    This market sell cheap special products in Korat, please look here a little.
